The Town of Tecumseh and the D.M. Eagle school community are eagerly anticipating their new school.
This morning Director of Education Erin Kelly, Trustee Connie Buckler and Trustee Julia Burgess were joined by D.M. Eagle students, parents and administration as well as MPP Andrew Dowie, Deputy Mayor Joe Bachetti with representatives from the Town of Tecumseh and Fortis Construction Group to celebrate the ongoing construction of the new school and unveil a sign featuring the exterior design of the building.
The building site, located north of Tecumseh Road in Tecumseh, and just west of Arlington Blvd., will soon begin to take shape into a home for 650 students opening in September of 2024. The school will welcome students from Kindergarten to Grade 8 and will offer both English and French Immersion programming.
鈥淎 new school has the ability to unite a community 鈥 in purpose and in spirit 鈥 but this new school will literally bring this community more together,鈥 stated Director Kelly in a speech to the event鈥檚 attendees.
鈥淥ur collective goal is to provide students with safe, stimulating places to learn and it has been my experience that we are doing just that,鈥 added Trustee Buckler. 鈥淭his is a great day to celebrate and we all look forward to the completion of this school and decades of learning to come.鈥
Event attendees worked together to unveil the construction site鈥檚 new sign, now visible from Tecumseh Road. Commuters, future students and families will be able to see what the new school will look like and follow along as construction continues.
The GECDSB is grateful to the Ministry of Education and the Town of Tecumseh for their cooperative partnership and ongoing support. These positive relationships result in new or renewed schools that benefit our students, our communities and our neighbourhoods. Of course, the construction of these new buildings would not be possible without the passion, thoughtfulness and professionalism of the GECDSB鈥檚 capital projects staff.
鈥淲hat I am most proud of is the students and the parents of this community,鈥 stated D.M. Eagle Principal, Rob Romano. 鈥淭hey bring a family atmosphere where everyone feels included and it is simply a pleasure to be a part of this school鈥ur staff is dedicated to instruction and individual growth. The future is bright with these students.鈥
