On October 21st students across Ontario took part in the Great Big CRUNCH! 馃崕
The GECDSB joined representatives from the Ontario Student Nutrition Program at David Maxwell Public School to take part in a simultaneous crunch that, every year, is meant to bring awareness to student nutrition programs, celebrate local farmers and promote healthy eating in schools. Many other GECDSB schools also took part in a Big Crunch and took time to discuss these important programs and partners.
Robin Tetreault, Community Development Coordinator for the OSNP states, 鈥淥SNP celebrates the Great Big Crunch to highlight Student Nutrition Programs and local farmers and producers. Today鈥檚 apples were sourced from Great Lakes Farms in Port Stanley and were distributed to 259 schools across Southwestern Ontario to celebrate! The team at David Maxwell and GECDSB do an outstanding job of ensuring their students are well nourished and have a great start to their day. We are so grateful to have such wonderful Student Nutrition Program Coordinators dedicated to and caring for our students!鈥
David Maxwell students took part in an assembly where they shared what they love about their school鈥檚 breakfast program, learned about the importance of programs like the OSNP and were given an apple to enjoy. 鈥淥ur student nutrition program is vital to our everyday existence in the school. It starts our journey at the beginning of the day and it just builds in this beautiful, successful way,鈥 said David Maxwell Principal, Teresa Hoffman Sartor.
Thank you to Robin Tetreault, Danielle Findlay and Michelle Bonadonna from the OSNP, Shelley Desamito, Teresa Hoffman Sartor and all of the students from David Maxwell and Superintendent Sash Querbach for making this such a fun and educational event.
